Fairfield conglomerate General Electric is working on using robots to make inspections of wind turbines faster and more reliable.
GE Global Research partnered with International Climbing Machines to make a remote-controlled robot scale a wind turbine with a video camera strapped to its back.
A robot inspector would replace inspectors having to use telescopes to inspect blades that are more than 300 feet away. With the closer robot, the inspector will have a better idea of the condition of the blades.
GE manufactures and sells turbines of various sizes, including some of the largest in the world. The company has 18,000 turbines installed worldwide.
