GE sells WattStation on Amazon

Fairfield conglomerate General Electric started selling its wall-mounted electric vehicle charger directly to consumers through Amazon.com.

The GE WattStation Wall Mount was developed at the company’s facilities in Plainville and allows owners of electric vehicles to more quickly charge their electric vehicles at home, or wherever they install the device.

On Wednesday afternoon, Amazon.com listed the device at $1,099 with free shipping.

The charger will fully power an electric-car battery in four to eight hours, compared to the 12-18 hours needed from a standard 110-volt outlet.

Connecticut seeks to become a national leader in alternatively-fueled cars; and a number of federal, state and municipal programs have built the fueling infrastructure for these cars throughout the state.

The state has more than 20 publicly available electric vehicle charging stations; and electric vehicles Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Volt and Tesla Roadster all are sold in Connecticut.
