General Electric Corp. led 11 Connecticut companies on the latest Fortune 500 list, which was published this month in Fortune magazine.
Eighteen other companies from Connecticut made the Fortune 1000 list, the annual ranking of America’s largest corporations based on total revenues for 2007.
Fairfield-based GE ranked No. 6 in revenues at $176.7 billion, behind Wal-Mart Stores, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, General Motors and ConocoPhillips.
Its profits of $22.2 billion ranked second to Exxon Mobil.
Although GE’s financial services and mortgage units were hit by the credit crunch, profits from locomotives, jet engines and water treatment plants kept profits flowing, Fortune said.
United Technologies Corp. ranked No. 39, up three places from a year earlier. Its revenues of $54.8 billion were 14 percent higher than 2006.
The Hartford-based maker of aerospace equipment, elevators and air conditioners was awarded a $1.5 billion Pentagon contract to build Black Hawk and Medevac heliocopters.
Aetna, also based in Hartford, ranked No. 85, the same as last year, with revenues of $27.6 billion and profits of $1.8 billion.
Hartford Financial Services ranked No. 95 after its revenues slipped to $25.9 million. The 2.2 percent decline cost it 13 places in the rankings. But its profits rose by 7.4 percent to $2.9 billion.
Xerox, which is based in Norwalk, was ranked No. 144 with revenues of $17.2 billion. Its 8.4 percent increase in revenues helped it move up one spot on the list.
Rounding out the Connecticut companies in the Fortune 500 were:
Praxair of Danbury, No. 278, with revenues of $9.4 billion.
Terex of Westport, No. 287, with revenues of $9.1 billion.
