The aviation division of Fairfield conglomerate General Electric scored two contracts with Turkish Airlines totaling more than $2.4 billion.
Turkish Airlines ordered 15 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft powered by GE engines for delivery beginning in 2014, along with a maintenance, repair, and overhaul agreement with GE’s OnPoint solutions. The total value is $1.4 billion.
The engine powering the Boeing 777-300ER is part of GE’s new wave of engines seeking to increase the thrust while increasing the efficiency.
The airline also selected GE’s engines to power its fleet of 15 Airbus A330-300 aircraft for delivery in 2013, along with the OnPoint maintenance agreement. The total value is $1 billion.
