Fairfield conglomerate General Electric on Wednesday increased its American production of bottom-freezer refrigerators, as the style becomes more popular in the market.
To accomplish the ramp-up, GE added 380 employees at its Louisville, Ky. Plant to work a second shift on bottom-freezer refrigerator production.
GE made a splash in the manufacturing community last year by announcing a $1 billion upgrade to the Louisville plant to increase its U.S. production. Government and industry officials saw the investment as one of the most promising moves in recent years to shift manufacturing jobs back to America that previously were sent overseas.
With the 380 employees announced on Wednesday, GE has 882 production, salaried and support positions at the plant.
