Fairfield conglomerate General Electric announced on Monday its new home energy management business program, designed to help consumers reduce their energy usage throughout the home.
“If we can better manage when and how we use power, we can control the demand without compromising people’s lifestyles,” Dave McCalpin, newly appointed general manager of GE’s Home Energy Management business, in a statement.
The new business takes all of GE’s energy management solutions under one roof and packages them to consumers to make it easier to reduce their energy costs. GE decided to launch this new venture as utilities begin to implement smart grid technology throughout the nation. Smart grids allow electric customers to monitor their real-time energy usage.
GE has a variety of products designed for energy efficiency and energy-use monitoring, such as a hybrid hot water heater and the Nucleus energy manager.
