Employees of Alstom Energy in Windsor and Bloomfield have a new employer this morning. General Electric has completed its global purchase of the French company. The deal was worth a reported $13.6 billion.
GE announced today that it has completed the acquisition of Alstom’s power and grid businesses. The completion of the transaction follows the regulatory approval of the deal in over 20 countries and regions including the EU, U.S., China, India, Japan and Brazil. It is GE’s largest-ever industrial acquisition.
In December 2014, Alstom agreed to plead guilty and pay $772 million for using bribes to win business in countries around the world. WNPR reported some of the illegal actions took place at the company’s Windsor facility. Michael Gustafson, assistant U.S. Attorney for Connecticut, said at the time that executives and employees from Windsor worked hand in hand with co-conspirators across the globe to bribe officials in places such as Indonesia, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
The acquisition affects a reported 1,200 employees in the facilities north of Hartford.
