GE betters wind turbines, electric vehicles

Fairfield energy giant General Electric is furthering its commitment to renewable energy, announcing a the introduction of a better performing wind turbine and a goal of creating more electric vehicle infrastructure the United States.

The new 2.5-megawatt wind turbine will produce more energy over existing similar turbines with minor upgrades to its electrical systems and better aerodynamics in the blades. This size turbine is being used in wind farm projects in Oregon and Romania.

With a better 2.5-megawatt turbine, GE hopes to build upon the success of its 1.5-megawatt machine, the world’s most widely deployed wind turbine with 14,000 units installed.

This week, GE also partnered with California electric vehicle service provider Better Place to provider battering financing for electric vehicles; more consumer awareness of the cars; joint ownership of company fleets to pay for electric vehicle conversions; and technology development.
