GE Aviation acquires Ohio manufacturers

The aviation division of Fairfield conglomerate General Electric has acquired two Ohio-based precision manufacturers in order to expand its jet engine building capacity.

GE Aviation announced Tuesday the acquisition of Morris Technologies and its sister company Rapid Quality Manufacturing, based out of suburban Cincinnati. The two companies have a combined 130 employees specializing in additive manufacturing.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition comes as GE Aviation is trying to ramp up production of its jet engines. The GE division also plans to open two new production plants in the U.S. next year.

Prior to the acquisition, Morris Technologies and Rapid Quality Manufacturing were under contract to produce parts for the LEAP jet engine, a more fuel efficient propulsion system developed by GE and Snecma of France. The acquisition will help GE and Snecma fulfill the more than 4,000 orders they received for LEAP, even though the first full engine hasn’t gone to test.
