Fairfield conglomerate General Electric announced Wednesday plans for a $40 million electric grid innovation center in Markham, Ontario.
The 200,000 sq. ft. center will develop and manufacture power grid modernization technologies designed to make generating and delivering power more efficient, reliable and sustainable.
The $40 million project is funded in part with a $7.9 million grant from the Ontario government.
“Through this important partnership, we are creating jobs and establishing centers of excellence for Ontarians in high-growth sectors of the economy,” said Sandra Pupatello, Ontario minister of economic development and trade, in a statement. “The global demand for clean technologies is increasing and today, we’re taking another step forward in establishing Ontario as a market leader.”
