Tesla has opened its first Connecticut showroom with vehicle sales at Mohegan Sun, avoiding a state law that prevents the direct sale of automobiles from manufacturers by locating the facility on tribal land.
Mohegan Sun and Tesla celebrated the grand opening of the Tesla EV Showroom in the Shops at Mohegan Sun on Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Officials said the partnership between Mohegan Sun, owned and operated by the Mohegan Tribe, and Tesla, the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles in the world, will generate environmental benefits by increasing the number of zero-emission cars in the region.
The new sales and delivery center is the first-of-its-kind in Connecticut. The Mohegan Tribe is a sovereign nation with its own laws that allow for the facility.
Wednesday’s celebration featured some of the first Tesla buyers in the Nutmeg State receiving their vehicles.
The Tesla EV Showroom is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday.Â
