Gail McGovern quits The Hartford board

The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. announced that Gail J. McGovern has resigned as a director of the property-casualty and financial services giant.

In a prepared statement, The Hartford said McGovern is resigning “in light of her responsibilities as the president and chief executive officer” of the American Red Cross, a position she has held since June 2008.

McGovern, 58, whose resignation is effective July 31, joined The Hartford’s board in 2003.

“Her contributions over the last seven years are greatly appreciated and we will certainly miss her insightful perspectives,” said Liam E. McGee, chairman, president and CEO of The Hartford.
