G-Monkey closes West Hartford restaurant, plans to expand food truck venture

A vegan restaurant in West Hartford is closing its physical location at 625 New Park Ave., but plans to expand its mobile catering business.

G-Monkey, which made a name for itself selling healthy plant-based fast food, will close after two years, the owners announced.

The closure, set for Dec. 16, will allow the owners, Chef Mark Shadle and Ami Beach, to focus on their G-Monkey Truck expansion. A newly redesigned truck will hit the road in 2024, they said.

The pair has owned three brick-and-mortar restaurants over more than 30 years, including ION in Middletown and G-Zen in Branford.

Shadle said when you own a restaurant, you spend most of your time behind the scenes. He said he looks forward to working hands-on with G-Monkey mobile across the state.
In addition, they plan to host monthly “tonic and talk” lectures at their farm in Durham.

Beach also plans to integrate her plant-based nutritional healing consultations on a limited basis.

They’re also looking to launch a G-Monkey food truck franchise, according to the announcement.
