The U.S. arm of Japanese technology and information-services giant Fujitsu Ltd. has expanded its Northeast office footprint with bigger space on another floor of a Glastonbury office building.
In early March, Fujitsu America Inc. moved its 14 permanent staffers from 2,500 square feet on the ground floor to 4,000 square feet on the second floor of 115 Glastonbury Blvd.
The new, five-year lease with landlord Sangit 2010 LLC runs through Feb. 28, 2019, according to Fujitsu America Vice President Henning Kerger, who works out of the same office.
With the expansion, Fujitsu added a conference room and lab to demonstrate its IT-services and software capabilities to current and prospective customers as well as “giving people the room they need,” Kerger said.
He said Fujitsu projects its Northeast service footprint will grow the next three years such that it could double its Glastonbury staffing to 25 to 30 workers, minimum.
“You never know in our business. It can jump significantly,” Kerger said.
Fujitsu America opened the Glastonbury office in 2011, when it took on Rhode Island’s Citizen Bank as an IT client, Kerger said.
Fujitsu, which also has offices in Manhattan and Massachusetts, where it has since added retailers T.J. Maxx and Staples as clients, Kerger said.
German insurer Munich Re, which owns Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection & Insurance Co., also is a Fujitsu customer, he said.
The company also is preparing, Kerger said, to launch a college internship program to cultivate talent from Hartford area colleges and universities.
