A power plant manufacturer in Danbury received $6.6 million from the German government to support a research and development project for clean and efficient fuel cells.
Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy gave FuelCell Energy Solutions (FCES) the $6.6 million in research awards to support a three-year project that is intended to enhance Direct FuelCell technology.
The research and development is intended to increase the power output of the fuel cell stack, make the fuel cell power plants more affordable with increased power output from the fuel cells, and extend operating life for the fuel cell stack. Direct FuelCell power plants are fuel flexible, and are capable of operating on natural gas, on-site renewable biogas, or directed biogas.
FCES, in partnership with Dresden manufacturer Fraunhofer IKTS, has a German manufacturing base and is the manufacturing and service business for the European division for FuelCell Energy, Inc.
