Danbury clean-power manufacturer FuelCell Energy Inc. says it has delivered on its previous pledges, boosting fuel-cell production 25 percent and hiring 25 more workers at its Torrington plant.
According to FuelCell’s first-quarter performance update, its Torrington staffing at 539 Technology Park Drive stands at 295, from the 270 at the end of March, and 220 at the start of this year.
FuelCell says it now has 600 employees worldwide – 535 of whom are in Connecticut.
The company says it’s now churning out fuel cells with a capacity of generating 70 megawatts of power, based on the strength of new orders, including a planned 14.9-megawatt, fuel-cell park in Bridgeport.
FuelCell has said it must it an annual production run-rate of 210 megawatts to become profitable without government subsidies.
Due to the higher production, FuelCell says it now expects to post revenues between $38 million to $40 million in the second quarter, some 4 percent to 10 percent more than from the first quarter and nearly two-thirds greater than its revenues for the second quarter a year ago.
