Danbury’s FuelCell Energy Inc. has signed on to sell one of its clean-energy power plants to serve a fifth California university campus.
Southern California Edison Co. ordered a 1.4 megawatt DFC1500 fuel cell that it will install at California State University, San Bernadino. The 17,000-student campus is midway between Los Angeles and Palm Springs.
The price tag was not disclosed. The unit is due to go on line in 2012.
FuelCell says Southern California Edison benefits from expanding its power grid without a major investment to its transmission and distribution grid.
