Danbury-based FuelCell Energy Inc. said it sold a fourth fuel cell power plant to the fast-growing city of Tulare, Calif.
Terms were not disclosed.
The extra unit expands the San Joaquin Valley municipality’s capacity to 1 megawatt, increasing the amount of green electricity produced at its regional wastewater treatment facility.
The treatment facility serves 58,000 residents, processing 12.5 million gallons of sewage daily. The fuel cell unit runs on methane generated by the wastewater plant.
Normally, methane would be vented directly into the atmosphere to mingle with other airborne pollutants to create smog.
