The most common Connecticut consumer complaints in 2013, related to the sudden closing of a home heating oil company as well as gas pump glitches and signage, according to the Department of Consumer Protection.
Fuel-related complaints, which made up 17.5 percent of more than 6,000 complaints received, overtook last year’s most common gripe category — home improvement contractors and builders.
Complaints about telemarketing, retail and Internet companies, real estate and auto dealers remained stable.
DCP Commissioner William Rubenstein said his department will pursue legal action against companies where appropriate. He said well-informed consumers will suffer fewer problems on average.
