Wallingford fuel station provider SunHydro will receive 10 Toyota Advanced Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicles as part of its company fleet this fall.
The fuel cell cars run purely on hydrogen, which is completely emissions-free. SunHydro builds fuel cell refueling stations that manufacture hydrogen using solar power. The company operates out of Wallingford’s Proton Energy Systems, which builds fuel cells and equipment that are used by the SunHydro stations.
The Toyotas in Connecticut are part of a nationwide fuel cell demonstration program that will place more than 100 vehicles over the next three years.
SunHydro has been a leader in developing the Hydrogen Highway along the East Coast, which is a series of hydrogen fueling stations enabling owners of fuel cell vehicles to drive from Maine to Miami. The first station of this series is at the Proton Energy Systems facility in Wallingford.
