Frontier plans to relocate Norwalk HQ to Dallas

Telecommunications giant Frontier confirmed Wednesday morning that it will relocate its headquarters from Norwalk to Dallas, where it had recently applied for tax incentives.

In an announcement, Frontier said it will maintain a presence in Connecticut and will continue to expand access to its fiber network across the state. Also, the company said it will continue to use its unionized workers.

The telecommunications company said the relocation will boost the economies of Dallas and Texas by $3.8 billion. Also, the move will secure more than 3,000 jobs in the Dallas area over the next decade, it said.

Frontier chose Dallas because of the city’s central location – in the middle of the company’s national footprint – and because it’s a “business-friendly city,” according to the announcement.

Several of Frontier’s top executives, including Chief Executive Officer Nick Jeffery, already live in Dallas.

Last month, it was reported that Frontier was seeking tax incentives to convert its existing Dallas office into a corporate headquarters.

Frontier applied for designation as an Enterprise Zone Project, which would allow it to receive a refund of the sales and use taxes paid as part of its capital investment, up to $2,500 per job created or retained.

As a second option, Frontier said it was considering Tampa, Florida.

Frontier said its new 95,000-square-foot space in Uptown Dallas will drive innovation as the company “transforms into a growing tech company,” according to the announcement.

Frontier plans to expand its fiber-optic network in Texas, which it says will increase home values and attract new businesses, particularly in high-tech industries.

“Moving our headquarters to Dallas makes good business sense given the city is already home to hundreds of our corporate employees and sits in the middle of one of our most important fiber markets,” Jeffery said. “With a fast-growing economy and large, diverse pool of talent, Dallas is quickly becoming one of the nation’s top business cities.”

Frontier has more than 14,000 employees across the United States, including 220 in Norwalk, and more than 600 in its existing Dallas office, according to Bloomberg.

This is the third headquarters Connecticut has lost just this year. Earlier in 2023, LEGO announced plans to move its U.S. headquarters to Boston, while Campbell Soup said it will close its corporate office in Norwalk as it consolidates operations in New Jersey.
