France’s Arkema sells Enfield biomaterials unit

The founders of Enfield’s Oxford Performance Materials Inc. has purchased the biomedical plastics business from a French chemical firm.

Oxford President and CEO Scott DeFelice and principal Severine Zygmont, who is operations vice president and who with DeFelice founded OPM in 2002, paid an undisclosed sum for the PEKK medical business of Arkema Inc.

In conjunction with the deal, OPM is preparing to move by September operations from 120 Post Road in Enfield to about 18,000 square feet of leased space at 30 South Satellite Road in South Windsor. The facility has larger clean rooms for fabricating specialty plastic part

Arkema bought Oxford and PEKK in 2009.

In a statement Monday, DeFelice said OPM has nurtured its OXPEKK and PEKK brand thermoplastics lineup for a decade and are now ready to proceed to the next level in their marketing development.

The French chemical producer was formed from the 2004 corporate reorganization of French oil giant Total.
