Foxwoods slot revenues reach post-lockdown high

Foxwoods Resort Casino brought in $36.5 million in slot revenues in July, its highest monthly take since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

July’s slot machine income tops earnings from the prior month, June, which stood at $29.4 million, and June 2020, which had been the gaming and entertainment complex’s highest-grossing month for slots — at $31.1 million — since the lockdowns of March and April.

According to the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns and oversees Foxwoods, last month’s slot earnings will translate into a $9.1 million direct payment to the state under the terms of Connecticut’s long-standing slot revenue contribution agreement.

While Foxwoods officials did not say what factors might have driven up business, the venue likely benefited from pent-up demand following Connecticut’s phased economic reopening over the spring and early summer. The casino and resort has also been hosting and heavily marketing Summerfest, an ongoing series of live entertainment events, promotions, contests, giveaways and parties.

Additionally, Foxwoods has restarted concerts and comedy shows, with acts such as Train, Method Man, Jeff Foxworthy, Norm Macdonald and John Legend, among others, scheduled to perform over the coming weeks and months.
