Foxwoods reopens poker room, other attractions

Foxwoods Resort Casino announced it will reopen its poker room today, and other several attractions later this month that have been closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mashantucket casino will also reopen its Rainmaker Casino, Live@Atrium Bar and Topgolf Swing Suite, an indoor golf arcade, Foxwoods said.

Reopenings come amid increased demand as COVID-19 vaccines are distributed and some state restrictions are being curtailed.

“The reintroduction of poker has been one of our guests’ top requests since we began our staged reopening,” Foxwoods said in the announcement. “As part of the resort’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe environment, Foxwoods implemented new safety protocols and operating procedures in partnership with medical experts.”

Safety protocols include a mask mandate, social distancing requirements, plexiglass barriers and increased sanitization of high-touch spaces like table game areas and slot machines.

Following the poker reopening, Foxwoods will open Topgolf Swing Suite and Live@Atrium Bar & Lounge on March 12. Rainmaker Casino will reopen on weekends beginning March 12. Foxwoods previously opened the Rainmaker Casino floor only to customers over the age of 55 on weekends.

Last month Foxwoods reported $24.5 million in January profits, up 14% from December’s $21.5 million. However, the casino’s monthly revenues were down 25% from the year-ago period, when it recorded $32.5 million, pre-pandemic.
