Foxwoods rebrands MGM tower

What was once the MGM Grand is now The Fox Tower, Foxwoods Resort Casino announced.

Foxwoods announced in October that it would end its partnership with MGM Resorts International, whose flag was displayed atop the $700-million, 30-story hotel and casino since its construction five years ago.

The new name reflects “Fox People,” a nickname for members of Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which owns the Ledyard casino.

Foxwoods and MGM are both vying for casino licenses in Massachusetts, though a spokesman for Foxwoods said in October that the split was unrelated, and was instead a marketing and branding decision.

Foxwoods also said its renovations of another hotel, The Grand Pequot Tower, is nearing completion. In addition, the Tanger Outlet Mall is expected to open next year.
