Jennifer Rizzotti, a former UConn star and current assistant coach of the USA Women’s Olympic basketball team, today was named president of the Connecticut Sun, the WNBA franchise that plays its home games as the Uncasville casino.
Rizzotti will manage business operations and marketing for the team, which opens its season this year on the road against the Atlanta Dream on May 14.
“I am so honored to rejoin the WNBA family in this leadership position with the Connecticut Sun,” Rizzotti said.
The team, owned by the Mohegan Tribe, is led this year by DeWanna Bonner, Jonquel Jones and Jasmine Thomas. The first home game of the season is scheduled for May 16.
This year’s home opener marks the Sun’s first game in Mohegan Sun Arena since Game 4 of the WNBA finals on October 8, 2019. The WNBA’s 2020 season was played without fans in attendance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
