Former tribal chairman convicted of theft

Michael Thomas, former chairman of the Pequot Tribal Nation, was convicted Wednesday of embezzling approximately $100,000, the Associated Press reports.

Thomas used the money to pay for limousine trips for his mother, as well as satellite radio, television and other expenses for himself, according to the AP.

A federal jury in New Haven found Thomas guilty of three theft charges, the AP said.

Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 22. The AP said Thomas’ brother, Steven Thomas, will be tried separately on charges that he stole $700,000.
