Former Southington Rite Aid could be cleared for new convenience store, gas station

The owner of a Southington property now housing a vacant Rite Aid is asking permission from the town’s planning and zoning commission to tear down the building and replace it with a 7-Eleven convenience store and gas station.

According to an application submitted on behalf of RAP Properties LLC, of Parrish, Florida, the existing 14,700-square-foot pharmacy at 500 Queen St. would be totally demolished to make space for the 7-Eleven, which would include a canopy and several gasoline pumps.

The planning and zoning commission has not yet taken up the matter but could review it at its next meeting, on Sept. 7.

A consultant representing RAP in its application could not be reached for comment on the project.

According to town property records, RAP has owned the 2.2-acre parcel adjacent to Interstate 84 since 2001. Walgreens, which owns Rite Aid, is listed as a co-owner.

The pharmacy was built in 2009.
