Former NU conducting helicopter inspections

The newly rebranded Eversource Energy is conducting infrared helicopter inspections of its transmission system through late February, to ensure the reliability of the region’s power grid.

Eversource, which is the new name for energy conglomerate Northeast Utilities and its subsidiaries Connecticut Light & Power and Yankee Gas, has more than 800 miles of transmission rights-of-way in Connecticut, so using a helicopter to make inspections moves the process along quickly.

The inspection began on Monday in lower Fairfield County and will continue through the central part of the state to the Massachusetts border by Feb. 28. Depending on weather, all inspections are conducted from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
