A former industrial laundry facility in New Haven where an affordable housing complex is planned, has been sold for just under $2 million.
The 40,000-square-foot building at 149 Derby Ave., was sold by 149 Derby Ave. LLC and The New Haven Group Inc. to Avon-based Honeycomb Real Estate Partners and Monarch Apartment Homes LLC for $1.95 million in a deal recorded May 30.
Plans for the parcels at 149 and 169 Derby Ave. in the city’s West River neighborhood, were approved in late 2022 by the City Plan Commission.

The new development, dubbed “The Monarch,” will have 64 affordable apartments.
The site needed remediation work, and developers expected to complete the project by early 2025.
The property was once home to the Monarch Cleaners, established in 1898, then it was purchased by New England Linen in 1997, but has sat vacant the last several years.
