Former Mohegan Gaming CEO tapped to oversee international projects

A former head of Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment — the operator of Mohegan Sun in Uncasville — is returning to the company as its first-ever international president.

Bobby Soper, who led Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment as CEO from 2015 to 2017, will now spearhead two GME projects in Asia: the “Inspire Entertainment Resort” near Incheon International Airport in South Korea, and a partnership with investment holding company Oshidori International aimed at securing an integrated resort license in Nagasaki, Japan.

Soper held various leadership positions at GME between 2001 and 2017, including a stint as president and CEO of Mohegan Sun from 2012 to 2015.

Since 2017, he has served as president and CEO of Sun Gaming and Hospitality.

The Inspire project, targeted to open in 2022, is expected to include a three-tower luxury hotel complex with retail shops, restaurants, an amusement park, and an arena with capacity for up to 15,000 people. According to the Mohegan Tribe, it will be the first and only destination resort with its own adjacent private air terminal.

In January, Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment and Oshidori announced their partnership in seeking an integrated resort license in Sasebo, Nagasaki. The Nagasaki prefecture is hearing proposals from several potential developers, and its selection process is expected to run through this summer and fall.
