Former MLB player opens indoor baseball training facility in Old Saybrook

A basement and softball coaching business founded by a former Major League Baseball player has opened an 8,000-square-foot indoor training facility in Old Saybrook.

Lumber 2 Leather has converted the industrial building at 119 Spencer Plains Road into a facility with seven, 60-foot batting and pitching tunnels, a dedicated strength and conditioning area, and a pro shop.

The tunnel system can also fully retract, creating an open turf infield.

Lumber 2 Leather opened in August and is offering memberships. The facility is located just off Interstate 95 at Exit 66.

Will Braun of O,R&L Commercial represented Lumber 2 Leather in the transaction.
