Karen Buffkin has been appointed as the new general counsel of the Connecticut State College and Universities (CSCU) system.
Buffkin currently serves as the executive director of employee relations at the University of Connecticut, where she oversees the office of faculty and staff labor relations.
At UConn, Buffkin managed labor relations functions for both the university and UConn Health — covering over 11,000 employees and 13 bargaining units. She served as chief negotiator in contract negotiations and supervised labor and employment litigation with the Office of the General Counsel and Office of the Attorney General.
Prior to her role at UConn, Buffkin held several key leadership roles, including general counsel to former Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.
She begins her new role at CSCU on Nov. 29.
