One of the state’s most powerful former politicians is joining a leading Connecticut lobbying firm.
Government relations firm Gaffney Bennett and Associates said late Thursday that former Democratic House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz has joined the firm as a lobbyist, starting today.
Having not run for re-election last fall, Aresimowicz recently finished his most recent term in the General Assembly, serving as House speaker for the last four years.
Gaffney Bennett ranked as the largest lobbying firm in Connecticut as of Oct. 1, according to HBJ’s Book of Lists, based on the number of registered clients (80).
The firm’s clients include AT&T, 3M, Bank of American and Eversource.
“In bringing Joe into the firm, we hope to continue the tradition at GBA to enlist hard working professionals with experience and integrity to bring to bear on public policy challenges on behalf of our clients,” said Jay F. Malcynsky, managing partner of Gaffney Bennett and Associates.
Aresimowicz, who is also a football coach for Berlin High School, was previously an education coordinator for AFSCME Council 4.
Aresimowicz will initially focus on business development and municipal and federal issues on behalf of the firm’s clients, Malcynsky said.
