The YMCA of the USA, which oversees 2,700 of the nonprofit’s branches, has named Kevin Washington as president and CEO.
Washington was president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Hartford for a decade, before departing to lead the YMCA of Greater Boston in 2010.
He has also worked Y locations in Chicago and Philadelphia.
Washington, 60, will be Y-USA’s first black leader, the organization said.
His new job starts Feb. 1. He succeeds Neil Nicoll, who is stepping down at the end of the year.

Bristol’s ETTER Engineering, a third generation family owned company, has been named to the Inc. 500|5000 fastest growing companies in the United States list for the second consecutive year.

In Connecticut the firm ranked No. 43 in 2013, moving up to No. 23 in 2014.
ETTER specializes in commercial and industrial process heating and gas management products and services in the Northeast.
South Windsor Chamber names local exec ‘Business Person of the Year’
The South Windsor Chamber of Commerce has named Billy Mitchell, founder of Environmental Services Inc., as its “Business Person of the Year.”
Mitchell has led Environmental Services through significant growth. The firm responds to oil and chemical spills 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is licensed to perform hazardous waste management, transportation and disposal throughout the Northeast.
Post Univ. biz school ranked top 10 return on investment
For the second consecutive year, the Malcolm Baldrige School of Business at Post University has been ranked among the top 10 business schools in the nation for return on investment by Payscale.com, an online salary, benefits, and compensation information company.
PayScale has ranked more than 1,000 U.S. colleges and universities, comparing tuition costs with median lifetime salaries of their graduates.
Post University’s business school offers undergraduate and graduate business programs.
Quality Hyundai completes energy efficiency makeover on New Haven dealership
Quality Hyundai was recognized with an Energy Efficiency Leadership Award for completing a comprehensive energy project on a New Haven automobile dealership facility.
Utilizing programs administered by The United Illuminating Co. as part of the Energize Connecticut initiative, the dealership transformed a former U.S. Post Office processing center into a state-of-the-art show room and service center, integrating a variety of energy-efficient measures such as LED lighting and upgraded high-efficiency heating and cooling systems.
Quality Hyundai also installed more than 500 rooftop solar panels, making it the area’s first auto dealership to be powered entirely by solar energy.
