Former Hartford YMCA CEO to head top office

The YMCA of the USA, which oversees 2,700 of the nonprofit’s branches, has named Kevin Washington as president and CEO.

Washington was president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Hartford for a decade, before departing to lead the YMCA of Greater Boston in 2010. He has also worked Y locations in Chicago and Philadelphia.

Washington, 60, will be Y-USA’s first black leader, the organization said.

His new job starts Feb. 1. He succeeds Neil Nicoll, who is stepping down at the end of the year.
