Former CT hospital system CEO elected bank board chair

Danbury-based Union Savings Bank said Dr. John M. Murphy has been elected chairman of its board of trustees, effective Feb. 2.

Murphy, the former president and CEO of Nuvance Health, succeeds Lucie Voves, who is retiring as chair but will remain on the board.

Murphy has been affiliated with the bank for more than two decades, beginning as a corporator in 2003. He later became a trustee and has served on several board committees, including as chair of the trust committee, risk committee and loan policy review committee.

Before retiring in 2025, Murphy led Nuvance Health from 2010 to 2025 and previously served as executive vice president of Danbury Health Systems. He played a key role in the merger of Western Connecticut Health Care Network and Health Quest Systems, which formed Nuvance Health.
