For Tax Lawyer Hull, Connecticut’s Just Right

Jonathan Hull has lived in three New England states, but it appears Connecticut is the place to be for the newly hired associate at Reid & Riege in Hartford.

“New Hampshire is wonderful, but it’s a little too small,” he said. “At this time of my life, Connecticut seems like the right place.”

Of course, there’s the little fact that he met his wife of six months here. “That’s been very exciting — coming to Connecticut and meeting the woman of my dreams,” said Hull. “That has helped me feel Connecticut is the place to plant roots.”

Hull, 30, is a graduate of Brown University in Providence. During his undergraduate days and post-graduation, he was involved in politics there by working for a state senator and a governor. He brought his career in politics back to the Granite State, where he was executive director of a voting initiative. “New Hamphsire,” he said, because of its first-in-the-nation presidential primary, “is a unique political atmosphere. That was a great place to be.” He has set politics aside as he focuses on his burgeoning career.

His legal career in Connecticut began as an assistant clerk for the Superior Court in Meriden prior to joining Reid & Riege. He is admitted to practice in the state of Connecticut and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Hull graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law with a J.D. and a certificate in tax. He was a member of the Black Law Students Association and the Alva P. Louiselle Moot Court Competition. Tax law appealed to Hull because of its complexity, he said. “I found it to be challenging. It’s something you can develop an expertise in,” Hull explained, adding he will also practice environmental law as part of Reid & Riege’s litigation section.

He is a member of the bankruptcy and environmental sections of the Connecticut Bar Association and the Young Lawyers Division of the American Bar Association, as well as a member of the Hartford County Bar Association and the George W. Crawford Black Bar Association.
