For safety, city shuts schools for the weekend

To ensure public safety in city-owned buildings, including Hartford schools, Mayor Pedro E. Segarra has ordered all of them closed to weekend activities so crews can clear rooftops of ice and snow.

The plan takes effect immediately, beginning with the cancellation of all after-school activities on Friday and through the weekend.

“We need to be proactive when it comes to public safety, especially the safety of our children,” Segarra said. “We want to prevent structural damage— or worse yet— a roof collapse at any of our facilities.”
