Food workers reach tentative agreement with Stop & Shop

A tentative agreement has been reached between Stop & Shop and its 35,000 union members. No details were disclosed.

The agreement covers Stop & Shop stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The previous contract expired in late February, and union members worked without a contract for 42 days.

The announcement came from the five local unions covered by the agreement, United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Union Local 328, Local 371, Local 919, Local 1445 and Local 1459. Each local union will hold ratification votes in the coming weeks.

The New England Council of the United Food and Commercial Workers said in a statement they were able to defeat the company’s concessionary demands. They described the agreement as fair and equitable.
