A food service company won’t be laying off workers at the University of Bridgeport after all.
In a letter filed Monday with the state Department of Labor, France-headquartered Sodexo indicated it is rescinding its prior Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice.
Back in March, the company told the state it planned to lay off 65 employees who work for its dining operations at the university as of mid-May, and management separations were scheduled to happen in June. In a second follow-up notice in May, however, Sodexo indicated it had entered into “productive negotiations” with the university, and it postponed its last day of operations there until Aug. 14.
In this latest August notice, Curtis Stancil, director of human resources for Sodexo’s university segment, Northeast region, told officials the company would be rescinding its layoff notice entirely.
“Normal operations will continue with no reduction to staff levels,” Stancil said. “Sodexo will not be leaving the University of Bridgeport at this time.”
Miguel Arroyo, communications officer for the university, could not be reached for comment.
While Sodexo is headquartered in France, it has a regional office in Waltham, Mass. It provides catering, facilities management, and personal and home services, and has a presence in 67 countries, according to its website.
The university has indicated that regular fall semester courses, including online, hybrid and in-person, will begin on Aug. 27.
