Following takeover, Hebrew HealthCare plots future

With the sale of its 257-bed West Hartford now official, West Hartford’s Hebrew HealthCare said this week that it will sharpen its focus on related business lines.

While National Health Care Associates (NHCA) now owns and operates the nursing home, Hebrew, which has signed a 30-year lease with NHCA, will continue to operate its specialty hospital, senior day center, geriatric physician practice, assisted-living facility and dementia consultation program.

Hebrew said the deal with NHCA provides “needed financial relief” and will allow it to explore and develop additional service lines, with a focus on moving care out of institutional settings, Interim CEO Gary Jones said in a statement Wednesday, following the closing of the sale.

A bankruptcy judge approved the sale and leaseback transaction on Dec. 13.
