Foley concedes CT governor’s race

Tom Foley, the Republican candidate for governor of Connecticut, has conceded the close race despite questions about the election process, The Associated Press reports.

Foley said on Monday that although he could have tried to challenge the use of some photocopied ballots he believed that they represented a good-faith effort of people to cast votes and he would not challenge them. He said potential irregularities were not enough to affect the outcome of the race.

His announcement comes as Connecticut Republicans seek both state and federal investigations into how the election was handled last week in Bridgeport, the state’s largest city.

According to numbers posted on secretary of the state’s Web site on Monday, Malloy was leading Foley by 5,810 votes — a figure that has fluctuated since Friday, when Bridgeport election officials finally submitted their results.
