Fledgling healthcare accelerator settles on a name, seeks first cohort

A newly created accelerator program for medical technology and digital health startups is accepting applications for its first cohort of companies.

The accelerator, a venture among Hartford HealthCare, Trinity College and UConn, is slated for a November launch at One Constitution Plaza in downtown Hartford.

The partners have also settled on a name for the program: Digital Health CT.

Officials had initially referred to the program as Hartford MedTech Accelerator.

The accelerator, first announced in May, will be run by London-based Startupbootcamp, which also operates the two-year-old Hartford InsurTech Hub.

Digital Health CT also recently hired a managing director, Gyan Kapur, who most recently was a vice president at an early stage venture capital fund in New York.

In a statement, Kapur said Digital Health CT aims to provide value to hospital systems, VCs, insurers and other partners.

“That said, we’re also launching with a full effort toward making Hartford known regionally, nationally, and globally as a place to come build a great, innovative company,” Kapur said.

As of May, the program had received approximately $942,000 in state funding, through the Innovation Places program.

The 12-week accelerator aims to accept 10 companies from around the world that work with automation, analytics, precision medicine, medical simulation, virtual heath and other disciplines.

Application information can be found on Digital Health CT’s new website.
