Flatbread Company closes South Windsor location

The Flatbread Company restaurant at Evergreen Walk in South Windsor has shut down permanently.

Owner Neil Sharp made the announcement in a statement posted to social media.

“We wish we could have given everyone more notice, but time and circumstance didn’t allow us to do so,” Sharp said. “With all the legal maneuvering, negotiations and confidentiality agreements involved in big deals like Evergreen Walk, time was a luxury we just didn’t have.”

Sharp alluded to ongoing redevelopment work at the shopping plaza, though he did not say that it was the direct cause of the closure.

“Some of you may know we were exploring moving the restaurant somewhere else in Evergreen Walk,” he wrote. “We really wanted to make it work. We had months of drawings and quotes, but the cost of construction, materials, staffing shortages and multiple other factors made moving an infeasible venture. We agreed to give the current space back to the landlord as they have some serious redevelopment going on in the plaza! In a year or so, Evergreen Walk will be a very different looking place.”

Looking to counteract a wave of store closures in recent years, the plaza is in the process of adding a Whole Foods, and a Costco is being built nearby. As a result, some businesses are moving to different spaces within the shopping center.

The South Windsor restaurant is part of a chain of pizza-centered eateries that use both “American Flatbread” and “Flatbread Company” as names.

Sharp said gift cards can be used at the Flatbread Company location in Canton, or at any American Flatbread.
