New Haven-based Fitscript LLC announced the launch this month of its new GlucoseZone digital exercise program and mobile app to help people with diabetes exercise safely.
The program, founded in 2012 by New Haven resident Charlie O’Connell, who has type 1 diabetes, offers exercise guidance based on a user’s real-time glucose levels and other health metrics.
“For those living with diabetes, exercise is a fundamentally different process, beginning with the need to test blood sugar,” the company said.
Fitscript Marketing Director Michelle Zimmerman said users are prompted to enter their blood sugar readings before, during and after the workout, and can also enter health metrics like weight and heart rate, including data from wearable devices.
Within the app, users can access blood-sugar reduction and weight-loss programs, daily live interactive workouts and on-demand educational content, the company said. Zimmerman said there was a soft launch of the app in November.
Users can download the free app on iOS or Android devices. A monthly subscription is $12.99 after a seven-day trial.
