Filler debuts as Avison Young’s broker

Hartford’s resurgent office and residential sales-leasing market has prompted Canadian commercial leasing broker Avison Young to open an office downtown and recruit veteran broker Andrew Filler to run it.

Ontario-based Avison Young’s new Hartford office is on the 15th floor of CityPlace I, 185 Asylum St. It is the fourth U.S. office the firm has opened this month, officials said Monday.

Its first Connecticut office opened in New Canaan in June 2014. The firm now has 48 U.S. offices among its 70 offices, with more than 2,000 sales professionals, in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Filler previously was managing partner and principal at Hartford realty manager/leasing broker RM Bradley Co.

Michael Smith, Avison Young principal and managing director of the New England region, will oversee the new Hartford office’s strategic direction and overall growth strategy.

“We’re thrilled to enter the robust Hartford marketplace and expand our New England operations with an established industry veteran like Andrew Filler leading the way in conjunction with Michael Smith,” said Avison Young CEO Mark E. Rose. “Hartford is a capital city currently experiencing a transformation that is increasing housing and amenities, and offering attractive commercial real estate opportunities. Furthermore, these opportunities will appeal to local, national and international investors as well as landlords, tenants and owner-users in the office, retail, industrial and multi-residential asset classes.”

Filler joined RM Bradley in 2010 after 15 years at CB Richard Ellis in Hartford. He is an incorporator with Hartford Hospital; president of Simsbury Youth Hockey; and a trustee with the Cobb School.

He is a board member of Geno Auriemma’s Fore the Kids Golf Tournament, Friends of Trinity Hockey, and Trinity College’s Colt Trust.
