Fewer CT underutilized workers last year

Connecticut was one of 23 states that saw a decrease in underutilized workers last year, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Thursday.

Not included in the official unemployment rate, which stood at 6 percent in May, underutilized workers include those employed part time for economic reasons and those not actively seeking employment.

When those workers are included in the calculation, Connecticut’s unemployment rate in 2014 was actually 12.6 percent. That was down from 13.9 percent in 2013, BLS said.
