Feds hand Hartford $1.75 M for 12 new cops

The city of Hartford is getting a $1.75 million federal grant to hire 12 military veterans as police officers, authorities say.

Hartford’s mayor and acting police chief and other city leaders are scheduled to join Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Congressman John B. Larson noon Thursday at former Quirk Middle School to announce the grant from the Department of Justice COPS Hiring Program.

The grant requires that the city hire veterans for the slots, officials said.
