Police departments in Hartford, West Hartford and Bristol are splitting a $237,000 federal justice agency grant for various crime-fighting and public safety initiatives, authorities say.
Hartford is the biggest beneficiary, earmarked to collect $200,793 from Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program to boost its neighborhood police presence, officials said.
West Hartford police will use their $10,613 grant to increase their ability to analyze and review digital evidence.
Bristol’s police $26,235 award will buy new equipment.
Congressman John Larson announced the grants, hailing them as a much-needed financial lifeline.
“As cities and towns look to cut back and stretch their budgets during this difficult economic time, we must remember who protects our communities,” Larson said.
